JOSH Bates is on the right track with his recovery from a back injury.

And he's hoping to be back on a bike within the next few weeks following a visit to the specialist which gave him good news.

Barnsley racer Bates suffered the injury in pre-season but following surgery he has made impressive progress.

"I've been told the back has now heeled which is great news," he said. "The only issue I am dealing with now is sciatica but I am getting less of that every day and gaining strength.

"I'm starting hydrotherapy this week and stepping up my exercise so I'm certainly feeling good about things and I'll be back on a bike sooner rather than later."

Bates is also keen to say thanks again to all his fans and sponsors who have been so loyal during his time out.

He recently visited the premises of Warwick Ward (Machinery) Ltd who have joined his sponsorship portfolio.

"I would like to put on record how much I appreciate the support of everyone during what has been a tough time," he said.

"I enjoyed popping in to Warwick Ward and I thank them and all my valued sponsors, it's very much appreciated and I couldn't do it without them."
